PITTSBURGH (AP) _ American Eagle Outfitters Inc. (AEO) on Thursday reported fiscal first-quarter net income of $31.7 million.

The Pittsburgh-based company said it had net income of 16 cents per share.

The results missed Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of seven analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of 24 cents per share.

The teen clothing retailer posted revenue of $1.06 billion in the period, also missing Street forecasts. Six analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $1.14 billion.

American Eagle shares have declined 45% since the beginning of the year. In the final minutes of trading on Thursday, shares hit $14.02, a decline of 60% in the last 12 months.
