Our History
Established in 1886, Taylor Hobson is the world leader in surface and form metrology and developed the first Roundness and Surface Finish measuring instruments.
Taylor Hobson began with the vision of William Taylor, a Victorian entrepreneur who founded a lens making company with his brother. He was responsible for developing the world's highest quality cinema lenses which helped to develop the film industry in the early 20th century.
In the decades since, this AMETEK business has made its mark on the industry with the development of Form Talysurf® -the world's first true surface texture measuring instrument; Talyrond®-the world's first roundness measuring instrument; and the acquisition of LUPHOScan, which provided key non-contact metrology technology used in the measurement of complex aspherical lenses and optical surfaces.
Taylor Hobson is a world leader in surface form and metrology solutions.
Meet the Team
Meet Margherita - European Field Specialist for Non-Contact Metrology at Taylor Hobson.
Margherita plays a pivotal role in advancing technology and ensuring customer satisfaction. She has spearheaded various projects - from developing automatic measuring programs for earth-moving vehicles to implementing state-of-the-art measurement software for part identification.
Her expertise also extends to optics installations and maintenance, where her attention to detail shines.
Margherita has been an integral part of the Taylor Hobson team for over three years. She initially started as an Application Engineer in Italy before transitioning to her current international role.
"I appreciate being part of an international team where I can interact, learn, and collaborate with colleagues from around the world," she says. "I also get to travel a lot, which allows me to explore new cultures and traditions."

Giving back to the community
Taylor Hobson is proud to support Bamboozle Theatre Company, a Leicester-based organization dedicated to creating immersive theatre experiences for disabled children.
In 2023, through a mix of charity coffee mornings, raffles, bake sales, payroll giving, and matched contributions from the AMETEK Foundation, Taylor Hobson made a significant impact in supporting Bamboozle. This contribution will help Bamboozle continue their vital work in fostering inclusivity and enriching the lives of the children they support.
In 2022, the Taylor Hobson team organized a volunteer week, during which employees transformed a dilapidated building and overgrown garden, known as The Backyard, into a usable space on the local community allotment that Bamboozle uses for its projects.
Additionally, Taylor Hobson's charity team has attended Bamboozle's end-of-year show, further strengthening their connection with the organization and witnessing the impact of their work first-hand.
Taylor Hobson's fundraising efforts for Bamboozle Theatre were matched by the AMETEK Foundation.
A team from Taylor Hobson worked on Bamboozle's outdoor activity space called "The Backyard."
