AMP Bank has today launched its redesigned Visa debit cards, featuring a series of Indigenous artworks by emerging artist, Chloe Little, that celebrate the Indigenous cultures of Australia.

AMP Bank is one of the first banks in Australia to feature Indigenous artwork on its debit cards. From today, AMP Bank customers requesting a replacement card1 will receive one with the Indigenous artwork. The new designs will be on the physical debit cards and available for customers to add to their digital wallet on their mobile phones. The designs will be rolled out to new and existing customers on all cards issued by AMP Bank in early 2023.

AMP has had a longstanding commitment to reconciliation and support of First Nations Peoples, including in recent years through its Innovate Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) and soon to be launched Stretch RAP. Over the past two years, AMP's focus areas have included the financial wellbeing of Indigenous communities, the employment of First Nations Peoples within AMP and the further development of a cultural awareness framework to be delivered to AMP employees.

The RAP has helped to inform the design of AMP's offices including in Sydney's Quay Quarter Tower, and most recently the Bank's debit cards, providing visible symbols of AMP's support and focus on reconciliation.

AMP continues to proactively identify opportunities to include Australia's First Nations voices and stories throughout its business and is engaging Indigenous-owned businesses including the partnership with Chloe Little.

The new AMP Bank debit cards are also eco-friendly, using more sustainable materials. The cards are made using degradable PVC which uses less energy to produce, releases fewer greenhouse gases, and breaks down faster than other plastic.

Sean O'Malley, AMP Bank Group Executive said:

"AMP Bank is proud to be one of the first banks to bring Aboriginal art to the wallets of our customers and is an important marker of AMP's commitment to the reconciliation journey.

"Everyone has a role in reconciliation, and we know it is a subject many of our customers are deeply passionate about - which is why we wanted to showcase a physical marker of our shared commitment.

"It was important to produce cards using more sustainable materials to ensure we can help reduce the environmental impact of plastic and contribute towards a more sustainable future."

Binowee Bayles, AMP Head of Indigenous Programs said:

"As a proud First Nations woman, I'm excited to have supported AMP Bank's new Visa debit cards. This is another step forward in sending a clear message that AMP stands with First Nations Peoples.

"Our vision for reconciliation is for a unified nation that celebrates and pays respects to Australia's First Peoples, cultures and Country. The new debit cards are a visible symbol and embodiment of AMP's vision for reconciliation."

Yorta Yorta and Yuin woman, Chloe Little said:

"Creating art helps me to connect with my culture. It gives me a voice to share my stories, but it also allows the opportunity to inspire others to share their voice.

"I'm proud to have been part of this project and to see my art in the wallets of so many Australians. No matter where you are in this country, it can help deepen your connection to place.

"I hope the new AMP Bank debit cards help provide a platform bringing Indigenous cultures to the forefront of our society and for mutual understanding."

About the artist

Chloe Little is a proud Yorta Yorta and Yuin woman who lives on Dharug Country in Hawkesbury, NSW.

Chloe established her business The Scribbly Gum Studio in 2018 to connect with her Aboriginal culture, experiences and inner self by creating stories through contemporary Aboriginal art.

About the artwork

Chloe has created three pieces of art - Celebrating Sydney, Where the Land Meets the Sea and Ulupna.

The designs are a symbol of gratitude and respect for the deep enduring connection to the lands, waterways and sky.

AMP acknowledges and shares the pride of First Nations Peoples artistic and cultural expressions. Cultural art connects you to Country and to the ancestors in a way that deepens one's connection, respect and curiosity for the history of our Land.

This is one way that Indigenous Australians and the ancestors of this Country have recorded moments in time, told a story and have passed on information for thousands of years. It is our responsibility to share these cultural stories and preserve the traditions, ensuring true reconciliation between two peoples'.
