WALLINGFORD, Conn. (AP) _ Amphenol Corp. (APH) on Wednesday reported third-quarter profit of $496.6 million.

On a per-share basis, the Wallingford, Connecticut-based company said it had net income of 80 cents.

The results surpassed Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of seven analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of 75 cents per share.

The maker of fiber-optic products posted revenue of $3.3 billion in the period, also beating Street forecasts. Five analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $3.08 billion.

For the current quarter ending in December, Amphenol expects its per-share earnings to range from 73 cents to 75 cents.

The company said it expects revenue in the range of $3.09 billion to $3.15 billion for the fiscal fourth quarter. Analysts surveyed by Zacks had expected revenue of $3.16 billion.

Amphenol expects full-year earnings in the range of $2.95 to $2.97 per share, with revenue ranging from $12.47 billion to $12.53 billion.

Amphenol shares have decreased 17% since the beginning of the year, while the S&P's 500 index has fallen 19%. The stock has decreased 8% in the last 12 months.
