Antofagasta : Appointment of Independent Non-Executive Director

APPOINTMENT OF INDEPENDENT NON-EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

Antofagasta plc (the "Company") announces that the Board of the Company has today appointed María Eugenia Parot as an Independent Non-Executive Director with immediate effect.

Ms Parot has over 35 years of experience working for leading engineering and consulting companies providing services to the largest mining projects in Latin America in the areas of environment, sustainability and mine waste management. For the last 15 years she worked with Canada-based global firm Golder Associates ("Golder"), retiring as Vice President of Latin America in February 2020, a position she held for four years, having previously been Regional President for South America for six years and Managing Director in Chile for two years before that.

During her time with Golder, Ms Parot served as a Director on Golder's holding company board where she was a member of the Audit and Finance and Investments Committees. She was also Chair of the boards of Golder Associates South America Limited and Golder companies in Chile, Peru and Argentina.

Ms Parot has a degree in Civil Biochemical Engineering from the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Valparaíso and accreditation as an Environmental Auditor from CDG (Carl Duisberg Gesellschaft).

Ms Parot is 61, is based in Chile and is a Chilean citizen.

Mr Jean-Paul Luksic, Chairman of the Company said today: "Following a comprehensive externally- facilitated search process, we are delighted that María Eugenia has accepted our invitation to join the Board. Her technical background, providing services to the mining industry with an emphasis on environmental and sustainability matters, and considerable leadership experience will be of great benefit to the Company in the years ahead."

For the purposes of the UK Corporate Governance Code, Ms Parot is considered by the Board to be independent. Save as disclosed above, there are no further disclosures required under Listing Rule 9.6.13(1) to (6) in respect of Ms Parot.
