Aon PLC said its profit and revenue rose for the fourth quarter, driven by strength in its commercial risk solutions unit.

The professional-services firm that offers insurance-brokerage services Friday posted net income of $863 million, up 64% from $525 million in the prior year. Earnings were $3.90 a share, compared with $2.27 a share in the year-ago period.

Adjusted for transaction costs and other charges, earnings were $3.71 a share. Analysts polled by FactSet were looking for $3.34 a share.

Revenue rose 4% to $3.08 billion. Analysts were looking for $3.15 billion.

Commercial risk solutions revenue rose 11% to $1.85 billion. Reinsurance solutions revenue rose 13% to $222 million, and health solutions revenue fell 13% to $651 million. Wealth solutions revenue rose 2% to $364 million.
