--Apple Inc. has laid off about 100 contract workers who worked in recruitment as part of a broader slowdown in hiring, Bloomberg reported Monday, citing people familiar with the matter.

--Affected workers were told the cuts were made due to changes in Apple's current business needs, Bloomberg said.

--The iPhone maker is still retaining recruiters who are employed full time, and not all of its contracted workforce was laid off as part of the most recent move, Bloomberg reported.

--Representatives for Apple did not immediately return a request for comment from The Wall Street Journal. The company's shares fell less than 1%, to $172.79, in premarket trading on Tuesday.
