"Fortnite" is back on Apple's App Store in the U.S. nearly five years after the iPhone maker removed the popular videogame amid a long-running court dispute with developer Epic Games.

Apple yanked "Fortnite" from its app store in August 2020 after Epic Games rolled out a new way of making in-game purchases that bypassed a 30% commission that Apple charged on in-app transactions.

Apple said it removed "Fortnite" because Epic's payments feature violated its policies, while Epic Games countered that Apple collected an unfair cut of revenue. The two companies have been locked in a legal back-and-forth ever since.

"Fortnite is BACK on the App Store in the U.S. on iPhones and iPads... and on the Epic Games Store and AltStore in the E.U! It'll show up in Search soon!," Epic Games said in a post on X.

The reinstatement comes days after Epic Games said Apple had blocked the "Fortnite" app it had resubmitted for review, preventing it from releasing to the U.S. App Store or to the Epic Games Store for iOS in the European Union.

Apple last week said it had asked that Epic Sweden resubmit the app update without including the U.S. storefront of the App Store so as not to affect "Fortnite" in other geographies. Apple didn't respond to a request for comment on the reinstatement of "Fortnite."
