ArcelorMittal and Vow ASA have signed a memorandum of understanding for the construction of a biogas production plant in Luxembourg to reduce CO2 emissions during the steelmaking process, the two companies said Thursday.

The project, which will make use of ArcelorMittal's Rodange site in Luxembourg, will be carried out by ArcelorMittal Europe through its Long Products business and by Vow's subsidiary ETIA SAS, the companies said.

The new biogas plant will be operational in 2022, according to the companies.

ArcelorMittal and Vow will cooperate on engineering, business models and financing, they said. The biogas will be produced using a pryolysis technology patented by Vow which involves heating biomass at high temperatures, according to the companies.
