Archer Aviation plans to make 250 battery-electric air taxis in 2025

and certify its pilot-plus-four passenger aircraft, 'Midnight,' by the end of 2024

(Adam Goldstein, Archer Aviation Co-founder)

"Archer is building electric vertical takeoff and landing aircraft that will be used in and around urban environments. So these vehicles take off and land like a helicopter, but then they also fly forward on a wing and they're all powered by these electric motors. So it's this brand new type of aviation that we're really seeing kind of being ushered in, all being driven on the advancements of battery technology."

Once certified, the California-based startup's air taxi will compete in a crowded market

with dozens of other developers vying to revamp urban transportation

The nascent sector still faces significant challenges

relating to certification, developing a suitable air traffic management system

and battery technology improvements
