Tallink Grupp will from this week require passengers travelling from Tallinn to Stockholm to present health certificates prior to boarding Wed, 04 Aug 2021 10:30:00 +0300

From this week, Tallink Grupp will start asking passengers travelling on the Tallinn-Stockholm route, on the departures starting from Tallinn, to present health certificates prior to boarding. The requirement follows new restrictions imposed by the Estonian government in Estonia from this week and next concerning maximum capacities for restaurants, entertainment venues and for internal events, and the current travel restrictions for travelling to Sweden. The checks will currently not be carried out on departures starting from Stockholm, as the Swedish infection rate per 100,000 inhabitants is well below 75 and people travelling from Sweden to Estonia are not required to present any health certificates upon arrival. Additionally, the requirement to present health certificates prior to departures from Tallinn does not apply to Swedish residents, as they have the right to enter Sweden without the requirement to present any certificates.

To board the vessels sailing to Sweden from Tallinn and to enter Sweden, travellers from EU and Schengen area countries are currently required to present either a vaccination certificate evidencing that at least one dose of vaccine has been received (at least 14 days ago), a certificate showing the passenger has had COVID and recovered, or a negative test result. The requirement to present a certificate does not apply to children aged 17 and under.

'Our goal with the establishment of this health certificate requirement is to ensure that we can continue to offer our services during this period of new restrictions as safely as possible, whilst supporting the efforts of the authorities to prevent the virus spread,' Tallink Grupp's CEO Paavo Nõgene said.

'If we want to continue to offer Estonian travellers the opportunity to travel to Sweden from Tallinn also this autumn and winter and also offer these travellers the opportunity to enjoy good food, the best entertainment on the Baltic sea and events in the context of the new restrictions, then it is logical that we will take the same steps that all other restaurants and entertainment venues have to take to ensure the safety of everyone attending,' Nõgene added.

Passengers who have purchased tickets for Tallink's Tallinn-Stockholm route vessel Baltic Queen in A-premium or higher category cabins, have a free antigen test at the Port of Tallinn included in their tickets price. Passengers who have tickets for lower category cabins, have the opportunity to take the rapid antigen test at the Port of Tallinn and receive the necessary certificate for travelling at a cost of EUR 15 per person. Testing at the port is carried out by certified medical company Farmatar.
