Sonja Barendregt obtained her Master's degree in Business Economics from Erasmus University in Rotterdam in 1987. In 1990, she completed her postgraduate studies in accountancy at Erasmus University.

Current positions

Sonja Barendregt is a member of the Supervisory Board of ASR Nederland N.V. In addition, she is chair of the Audit and Risk Committee. Her first appointment was on 31 May 2018.

Previous positions

Sonja Barendregt has extensive experience in various management, advisory and supervisory positions.

In 1975, Sonja Barendregt started her career with one of the legal predecessors of accountancy and consultancy firm PwC. Between 1998 and 2017, she was a partner at PwC, specialised in the financial sector.

In addition, Sonja Barendregt was, inter alia, chair of PwC's International Pension Group, member of PwC's European Strategic Diversity Council, chair of the Pension Funds Industry Group, chair of the Investment Management Industry Group, and member of the European Investment Management Leadership Team. From 2017 until April 2021, Sonja Barendregt was a member of the Supervisory Board of Volksbank N.V. and chair of the Audit Committee.

In addition to her role at a.s.r., Sonja Barendregt is a member of the Supervisory Board of Robeco Institutional Asset Management B.V. and chair of the Audit & Risk Committee.

Reason for nomination for reappointment

Sonja Barendregt was appointed to the Supervisory Board on 31 May 2018. In accordance with the retirement schedule, her current (first) term of office ends upon the closing of the General Meeting on 25 May 2022. In order to ensure continuity within the Supervisory Board, Sonja Barendregt has been requested to make herself available for a regular reappointment for a second term of four years. The Supervisory Board is pleased that Sonja Barendregt is once again willing to commit herself to a.s.r.

During her professional career, Sonja Barendregt has worked for many companies in the financial sector, including various insurers, banks, pension funds and investment institutions. This knowledge and experience is very valuable to a.s.r.
