The U.K. Competition and Markets Authority said Monday that it has started a merger investigation into the anticipated acquisition by Assa Abloy AB of Arran Isle Ltd.

Assa Abloy announced a deal to acquire Arran Isle, a designer, manufacturer and distributor of door and window hardware in the U.K. and Ireland, in September last year.

The regulator said Monday it is considering whether the deal will result in the creation of a relevant merger situation and if it would lead to a substantial lessening of competition in the U.K.

The merger inquiry has a deadline of April 11 for its phase 1 decision.
