Our Head of Public Affairs had a weekend to remember when she took on the challenge of completing the Lake District Ultra Challenge from Kendal to Lakeside on Windermere in aid of our Assura Community Fund.

Claire Rick's run was on one of the hottest days of the year and involved running 50km (31 miles) over the hills, through the forest and down the lakeside, raising over £1721 which has been match funded by Assura to take the grant total to £3441.

Claire said: 'I'm flabbergasted by how generous everyone has been and this is money that will help us reach even more people with health-improving activities around the country. I've never trained for anything like this before and although it was seriously hard work, it's taught me a lot about what trail running does for my mental wellbeing and just how exhilarating challenges like this can be. And yes, I've got the bug: I've signed up for another one!'

The generous donations made during the buildup to the challenge will help our fund continue to support community projects throughout the UK.

The fund was launched in 2020 and supports health-improving projects in the communities around our buildings. It has distributed over £800,000 to charities and organisations working across the UK.
