Assura : New medical centre opens in Newbiggin Hall

Our new Medical Centre in Newbiggin Hall has officially opened its doors to patients.

The new premises for Saville Medical Group's Newbiggin Hall branch surgery have been handed over to the GPs and opened on Monday, 23rd August.

The new building is just 500m from the previous site on the corner of Trevelyan Drive and Newbiggin Lane, and houses all services from the former Newbiggin Hall branch surgery building as well as extra back-office space for the whole practice - with 38,000 patients set to benefit from the new centre.

We developed the building with support from NHS Newcastle Gateshead Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) and Newcastle City Council.

Dr Samantha Graham, GP Senior Partner from the Saville Medical Group, said: 'We are delighted that our wonderful new building is finally open to the public. Our state-of-the-art premises will provide the service that our patients justly deserve and satisfy the increase in local population. The new site will be a major asset to primary care, providing an uplifting and inspiring environment for our staff.'

The new multi-purpose building will operate as a hub for the Saville Medical Practice and other local practices in the area.

Jackie Cairns, Director for the Newcastle System at NHS Newcastle Gateshead CCG, said: 'Local practices play a vital role in helping us all look after our health, especially under the pressure of a pandemic. This new centre will be a fantastic resource both for the practice and the community it cares for.'

Newcastle City Council made the land available as part of the Newbiggin Hall estate redevelopment. The new medical centre, designed by P&HS Architects, is an important piece of the wider community regeneration scheme to create new homes and retail units.

Amanda Senior, head of Fairer Housing at Newcastle City Council, said: 'This has been a significant project to ensure Saville Medical Group can provide the required levels of care to a growing number of patients in Newcastle. I'm delighted that residents will have access to this fantastic modern facility just a short distance away from the existing site.'

Our Senior Development Manager, Andy Cooper, said: 'We are delighted that this building can finally open its doors to the public. This is a fantastic new space for patient care and it has taken a lot of work from everyone involved to bring it to completion, especially given that the build ran through several national lockdowns.'
