Together with the Rugby League World Cup 2021 (RLWC2021), we've announced the projects to be funded by our Assura Community Fund in our special partnership programme this year.

In January, we launched a RLWC2021 Grants Programme with a minimum of £100,000 available to help charitable and voluntary sector organisations deliver health and wellbeing activities.

The grants have been put in place to educate and teach skills that will contribute towards improving emotional health and wellbeing, gaining support for life challenges and providing increased activities and opportunities to improve self-confidence, self-esteem and belonging.

Grants have been given to health projects working from or with rugby league community clubs, existing recipients of the RLWC2021 host towns and cities.

Some of the fantastic projects to be funded by grants include help for older people coping with loneliness and isolation, volunteering and learning opportunities for disadvantaged young people, support for young adults to get ready for work, veteran wellbeing projects and summer activity camps for children, to name a few.

The first grants have been awarded to the following projects:

Tracy Power, RLWC2021 Social Impact Direct, said, 'Local communities have faced significant challenges during the pandemic, so the opportunity to deliver good news and fund projects that make a positive difference to people's lives is fantastic. We thank Assura for helping to make these projects happen and look forward to seeing the impact of the funded projects in the near future.'

Jonathan Murphy, our CEO, said: 'It's been so wonderful to see the really creative ideas coming from communities right across the rugby league map. We wanted to focus on projects which could help tackle wider issues which make such a difference to health and wellbeing - from isolation to debt, employment and self-confidence - and these projects have really tapped into that.'
