Assystem has become a founding sponsor of Women in Nuclear UK to support the industry's goal of reaching 40% of women in nuclear by 2030.

Women have a vital role to play in designing the world of tomorrow and the nuclear industry is at the forefront of this challenge as the developers of the low carbon energy technology that will decarbonise the economy.

As the UK nuclear industry strives to reach 40% of women in nuclear by 2040 the challenge ahead is how the industry can attract greater numbers of women to nuclear when women represent less than 19% (UCAS 2020) of those studying engineering at University.

The Women in Nuclear network plays a vital role in addressing the industry's gender balance and improving the representation of women in leadership. As a founding sponsor, Assystem will secure the future of this network that will fund the continued provision of high-quality events such as the forthcoming skills festival. Beginning on 22 March, the festival will be a five-day online event offering essential learning, inspiration and discovery. with companies and figures working together to encourage and excite the next generation of nuclear professionals.

Assystem will also sponsor the Charter Signatory of the Year Award for this month's WiN UK Awards.

Assystem's Chief Sales Officer, Matt Gallimore said: 'Assystem is committed to achieving a gender balance in our company through our #INCREDIBLEWOMEN programme and the nuclear industry by delivering new initiatives and supporting WiN.

'The number of women in our sector is pitifully low and the Nuclear Sector Deal needs to be achieved in just nine years. We believe that gender diversity in the workplace is a driving factor for business performance, which means that we need to ensure the sector is both attractive and accessible to women.'

As part of #INCREDIBLEWOMEN in the UK Assystem has recently pledged to attract 100 women to UK nuclear roles with the launch of a new technical graduate scheme. The opportunity offers a more accessible route to students into the industry and provides a mixture on-the-job training with Assystem's in-house technical development, mentoring and wider industry recognised training.
