The vaccination campaign against Covid-19 started on Tuesday in Alto Zambeze municipality, eastern Moxico province, where 1,900 people are expected to be vaccinated.

The municipality of Alto Zambeze, with over 100,000 inhabitants, is the fourth of the nine municipalities vaccinated so far (after Moxico, Camanongue and Bundas), having benefited from 3,800 doses of Astrazeneca's vaccines, for the two doses.

At this stage, the administration of the doses will cover citizens considered as priority group, namely health professionals, teachers and members of the security force and public order.

Speaking to ANGOP, the municipal health director, Jacinto Caumba Sandeze, said that despite some scepticism among the population, the first day of the campaign was marked with a considerable participation.

According to Caumba Sandeze, the end of the campaign in the municipality located 519 kilometres away is scheduled for Saturday, and then the second dose will start.

On the occasion, the municipal administrator of Alto Zambeze, António Muquisse, encouraged the population to participate in the campaign, in order to contribute to fight the pandemic.
