Celebrate National Physical Therapy Month!

The month of October is dedicated to a topic we here at ATI celebrate every day: physical therapy! National Physical Therapy Month gives us a unique opportunity to promote our talented therapists, the value of PT and the role physical therapists play in helping people overcome physical challenges.

To our therapists and clinic team members, thank you for your commitment to exceptional care and for bringing happiness and joy to those who need it most. You play a critical role in helping raise awareness around PT and educating patients. Your work ensures a healthier, stronger tomorrow for those who are being cared for today.

To our patients, we consider you to be a part of the ATI Family. Thank you for trusting us as your partner in health and believing in the value of PT. Our mission every day is to exceed your expectations by providing the highest quality of care in a friendly and encouraging environment.

What is National Physical Therapy (PT) Month?

Established by the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA), National Physical Therapy Month is 'a time to celebrate the profession and all the ways physical therapists, physical therapist assistants, and PT and PTA students help improve lives across the country.'

Each year, the APTA chooses a new focus for National PT Month to promote a pressing subject within the profession. The focus for 2021 is the importance of physical activity and how PTs play a role in getting people moving. With the weather cooling down and the state of the pandemic uncertain, it is as important as ever to keep physical activity at the forefront of our minds.

The Benefits Of Physical Therapy

Physical therapy is often thought of as what's required after surgery or for injury recovery, but PT is much more than just those examples of reactive care.

As highly-trained, licensed healthcare professionals, physical therapists can diagnose/assist with a wide range of physical conditions, advise on the best course of action and develop a treatment plan.

With PT, you can:

  • Stay active and fit. As APTA chose to highlight this year, physical therapy can be an effective form of exercise, helping to strengthen muscles, increase heart rate and burn calories.
  • Reduce the risk of diseases. Movement is medicine, and physical therapy promotes health by facilitating regular physical activity. For example, physical therapy can help to improve heart health and decrease risk of heart disease, the leading cause of death in the U.S.
  • Prevent injury. Physical therapists proactively identify risk factors based on patients' lifestyles that may lead to injury and work with patients to address them.
  • Prepare for surgery.Prehabilitation, or prehab for short, is a useful therapy for patients awaiting surgery. Prehab helps improve patients' strength prior to surgery, sets realistic expectations for post-op outcomes and ultimately reduces recovery time.
  • Take advantage of specialty services. With specialty therapy treatment available across sports medicine, prosthetic physical therapy and men's and women's health, to name a few, our PTs are trained to treat a wide range of physical health issues. In fact, ATI offers 20 different therapy services to meet the unique needs of our patients!
  • Save money and time. Avoiding unnecessary prescriptions, injections, imaging and extra doctor visits can save a patient thousands of dollars in added healthcare expenses, while preventing extended hospital stays and facilitating a shorter recovery time.
  • Stay on track with your goals. Getting back to your best physical self and maintaining good health is critical to living the life you desire. Whether it's playing a favorite sport, gardening, holding the grandkids or even just walking, PT can help you achieve your goals.
