A docudrama about Arkadiusz 'Aram' Rybicki, an opposition activist who died in the plane crash in Smoleńsk, started shooting Saturday, July 27. The film is directed by Krzysztof Talczewski, who also wrote the script. Talczewski was a friend of Aram back in the communist days.

Aram Rybicki (b. 1953) finished high school in Gdansk and graduated in history from the University of Gdańsk. In the 1970s he became involved in political opposition in the Polish Coast region. During the August 1980 strikes, together with Maciej Grzywaczewski, he wrote down 21 demands of the strike committees on the famous plywood boards, which are now on the UNESCO World Heritage list. Aram ran the Solidarity trade union press office and was detained under martial law. In the late 1990s he became Deputy Minister for Culture, and then a member of parliament for the Civil Platform party.

The documentary will feature archive footage and photographs. The creators of the film are looking for a man to play 20-year-old Aleksander Hall. He and young Aram threw blown eggs filled with paint at communist party bulletin boards in Gdańsk. ABM casting agency are looking for someone to play Hall via Facebook and other channels.

'Aram' is produced by Baltmedia. Production is expected to wrap in 2014.
