With innovation at the heart of its strategy, Atos today launches its first annual Inventors' Awards and announces its six winners. While this award celebrates Atos' inventors, those who every day design the future of the information space, it is also an opportunity to identify breakthrough innovations in line with the Group's and its customers' priorities.

For Sophie Proust, Chief Technology Officer (CTO) at Atos, "These inventors are breaking through digital boundaries to create a better, safer and more sustainable information space. They live and breathe the true spirit of Atos as innovation is at our heart."

For its first edition, a jury made up of Atos experts and led by Atos' CTO, carefully analyzed and evaluated the Group's best innovations. The decision was based upon three criteria: technological adequacy, level of innovation and customer impact. Amongst the variety of R&D innovations, 6 were awarded within 5 categories:

  • Newcomers: "Cloud Engine Security"

Seeing many governments and large businesses recently affected by vulnerabilities in the cloud, two cybersecurity experts invented a tool to improve both detection and response. In three months, they built a proof of concept and executed the solution in a Google Cloud environment. This solution works both as an abstraction layer that lets CSP-native security systems communicate fully with security platforms and as a remediation engine that automates response actions.

  • Technology: "Exit Legacy"

To take their business into the future, many companies want to move from legacy systems to modern capabilities. But modifying the entire software that runs their enterprise can be daunting not to mention risky. To reduce the risk, a group of data scientists decided to automate every phase of the modernization process and manage it from one single platform, "Exit Legacy". Today, this platform achieves modernization two times faster and 70% automation with 50% reduced effort.

  • Technology: "ID as a Service"

In today's evolving threat landscape, enterprises are often forced to choose between security and usability. Evidian, Atos's identity and access management (IAM) solution, is constantly working on new features that enable organizations to implement robust identity and access management without passing the burden on to their employees. One employee, when faced with a new client requirement, devised new methodologies to secure access with his two patent-pending innovations.

  • Customer: "ML-driven method for malevolent-free and projection-friendly CB-SMS handling in the ESInet"

Whilst first responders and emergency authorities can send text messages during an emergency, directly to all cell phones in the area of the event, they also can be overwhelmed with a surge of replies, potentially eating up critical time. More than a clever name, "ML-driven method for malevolent-free and projection-friendly CB-SMS handling in the ESInet" uses artificial intelligence and machine learning to sort, filter and verify replies. This is now a patented technology ready for NG 9-1-1 and NG 1-1-2 networks and other emergency networks around the world.

  • Decarbonization: "Cognitive Data Center"

Much scientific research depends on supercomputers which are shared by teams of researchers who schedule jobs in advance. When something happens to take one of these computers offline, every job in the queue is affected, and precious research time is lost. Before going offline, the computers start to malfunction and produce unusable results. An Atos team invented "Cognitive Data Center" to minimize the energy waste with two patent-pending innovations: a top-down approach based on AI to identify anomalies and a data center digital twin for real-time prevention.

  • Special Prize: "Shuttling Schedule Compiler, Lazy Synthesis, Natural Orbitalization"

The special prize this year goes to three inventors who are bringing the potential of quantum computing closer to reality: Shuttling Schedule Compiler, Lazy Synthesis and Natural Orbitalization. The first one optimizes quantum circuits it to automate tasks that challenge even today's highly specialized users. The second one fights the instability of qubits in quantum circuits to improve existing techniques by a factor of up to seven. And the third optimizes circuits by applying quantum chemistry to achieve better results even with veyr shallow circuits at a low additional cost.

Through this competition, Atos rewards patented solution that designs the future of the Group's business. These key innovations are already being integrated in the Group's offering to address the daily challenges of its customers.
