Autodesk Inc. on Tuesday said it agreed to buy Norwegian architecture software startup Spacemaker AI for $240 million, net of cash.

Autodesk said Oslo-based Spacemaker provides a cloud-based AI technology that helps architects, urban designers and real-estate developers optimize and maximize the potential of a building site, especially during early-stage design.

The San Rafael, Calif., software maker said it will fund the acquisition, which it expects to complete by the end of January, with cash on hand.
