BEVERLY, Mass. (AP) _ Axcelis Technologies Inc. (ACLS) on Wednesday reported first-quarter earnings of $41.6 million.

On a per-share basis, the Beverly, Massachusetts-based company said it had profit of $1.22.

The results beat Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of three analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of 92 cents per share.

The semiconductor services company posted revenue of $203.6 million in the period.

For the current quarter ending in July, Axcelis said it expects revenue in the range of $205 million to $215 million.

Axcelis shares have fallen 19% since the beginning of the year. In the final minutes of trading on Wednesday, shares hit $60.70, a rise of 49% in the last 12 months.
