This donations will help to support the vital work food banks are providing over the festive period and beyond. This includes a donation of £30,000 to Barrow Food Bank after the charity's base in the town was broken into and vandalised. Last year the food back supported more than 5,000 local people.

In Kent, a donation of £33,000 has been made to The FareShare Kent & Family Food Bank and the Trussell Trust Medway Food Bank. FareShare Kent & Family Food Bank has seen demand triple from the levels they experienced in 2019, while the Medway Food Bank has fed 34,000 people across the Medway towns over the last 10 years, with 50 per cent of those in the last two years alone.

The majority of donations have been made through the Trussell Trust who support a nationwide network of food banks, which together provide emergency food and support to people locked in poverty and campaign for change to end the need for food banks in the UK.

Ian Townsend-Blazier from FareShare Kent & Family Food Bank said: "This donation will really help the work that we do to continue to feed many hungry families and children across Kent and Medway. Last year we donated over 5.2 million meals and this donation will help us to expand our services even further."

Lorraine Schulze from Medway Food Bank said: "We're facing increases like never before and this winter is going to be very difficult for some people in Medway. But thanks to the support from BAE Systems we're going to be able to keep everything running."

The donations form part of the Company's community investment programme and its commitment to supporting local communities where its employees live and work. In 2020, BAE Systems contributed more than £10m to local, national and international charities and not-for-profit organisations, including charitable sponsorships, donations, employee fundraising and volunteering. This included helping organisations and initiatives in support of the COVID-19 response.
