HOUSTON (AP) _ Baker Hughes Co. (BKR) on Wednesday reported a third-quarter loss of $17 million, after reporting a profit in the same period a year earlier.

The Houston-based company said it had a loss of 2 cents per share. Earnings, adjusted for one-time gains and costs, came to 26 cents per share.

The results exceeded Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of eight analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of 25 cents per share.

The oilfield services company posted revenue of $5.37 billion in the period, which fell short of Street forecasts. Five analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $5.45 billion.

Baker Hughes shares have risen slightly since the beginning of the year. The stock has dropped 10% in the last 12 months.
