WESTMINSTER, Colo. (AP) _ Ball Corp. (BLL) on Thursday reported second-quarter earnings of $202 million.

On a per-share basis, the Westminster, Colorado-based company said it had profit of 61 cents. Earnings, adjusted for non-recurring costs and amortization costs, were 86 cents per share.

The results exceeded Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of eight analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of 83 cents per share.

The metal packaging company posted revenue of $3.46 billion in the period, also beating Street forecasts. Six analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $3.26 billion.

Ball shares have fallen 15% since the beginning of the year, while the S&P's 500 index has risen 17%. The stock has risen 5% in the last 12 months.
