BURNABY, British Columbia (AP) _ Ballard Power Systems Inc. (BLDP) on Thursday reported a loss of $21.9 million in its second quarter.

On a per-share basis, the Burnaby, British Columbia-based company said it had a loss of 7 cents.

The results did not meet Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of nine analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for a loss of 5 cents per share.

The fuel cell technology company posted revenue of $25 million in the period, which topped Street forecasts. Nine analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $20.6 million.

Ballard shares have declined 35% since the beginning of the year. The stock has increased slightly in the last 12 months.
