During the visit on 16th July, 2020 the CS engaged with Bamburi Cement management on matters of innovation and quality standards in the cement industry. Discussions encouraged more collaboration between the Ministry, Bamburi Cement alongside other players through Kenya Association of Manufacturers (KAM), to forge the way forward in addressing some of the challenges facing the sector including high power tariffs, influx of counterfeits, double taxation between County and National Governments, and quality of cement in the market. The discussions also involved how the government can prioritise use of contemporary cost effective cement from local manufacturers for infrastructural projects.

The CS who was accompanied by a delegation from the Ministry of Industry and Kenya Association of Manufacturers (KAM) CEO Phyllis Wakiaga, later toured the Bamburi Cement factory, which commissioned a KES 3billion state of the art capacity expansion project of 900,000tons.
