Bangkok Bank launches QR Code payment via PromptPay, highlighting "Bualuang mBanking" app for easy, safe and secure "pay-receive" and aims to be first to launch QR Code payment via debit/credit cards by end of the year

Bangkok Bank Executive Vice President Prassanee Ouiyamaphan said that in line with the government's policy to promote a cashless society in Thailand, starting with PromptPay transfers at the beginning of 2016, and PromptPay payments for products and services by scanning QR Codes which is being introduced in August, Bangkok Bank has developed the "Bualuang mBanking" app to support QR Codes for creating and scanning PromptPay transfers in one app. The app will provide convenience to businesses, especially small merchants with single owners, by allowing them to create QR Codes for their shops, printing and displaying the code at the shop so that customers can scan for payments and merchants can create a QR Code for each customer's payment, as well as making payments to partners for raw materials.

Customers can also use QR Code via Bualuang mBanking for products and services payments to merchants without the need to use cash, which will offer them even more convenience. The payment amount will be promptly and securely transferred to merchants' accounts linked with PromptPay.

"Bangkok Bank always considers customers' ease of use and designed Bualuang mBanking to meet the needs for both merchants and customers in one app by providing convenient transactions for making payments and receiving money. With the ease of QR Code creation, issues on preparing changes and keeping lumpsum amount of cash during the day will decrease. Customers can use the Bualuang mBanking app to scan QR Codes and make payments to merchants right away without the need to withdraw money from ATMs."

The bank has launched this new service on August 30, so customers can download the new version of the Bualuang mBanking app to scan QR Codes and immediately make payment for participating merchants. Initially, the trial service is available in various locations in Bangkok such as Lalai Sap Market, and markets in major cities such as Chiang Mai and Khon Kaen. The service can also be used to make payment for public transport such as Smart Taxi, online

shopping and food delivery services. In November, it will start expanding its service to various stores across the country.

Mrs. Prassanee said the bank will provide Bangkok Bank PromptPay QR Code signage to merchants, so they can use it to receive money. Merchants only need a mobile phone number which is registered with PromptPay, an account name and a merchant name to generate their QR Codes. Customers wanting to make payments to merchants can use the Bualuang mBanking application to scan the QR Code at the merchant, input the payment amount and check the accuracy of information and confirm the transaction. The system will then debit money from the payee's account and immediately deposit funds to the merchant's account.

Merchants and payees can have confidence in using this payment system. The bank will send a SMS to merchants' mobile phone numbers notifying them when receive money in their accounts (for merchants using SMS Account Alert) and they can also instantly check account movements via Bualuang mBanking. Payees can save transaction details in an e-slip format on their mobile phones as well as receiving an e-mail confirming the transaction and checking previous transactions at the "History" menu in Bualuang mBanking.

As well as payment services via PromptPay QR Code, Bangkok Bank is the first bank in Thailand to provide payment via QR Code using debit and credit cards.

Executive Vice President Shoke Na Ranong said debit and credit card payments via QR Code will allow customers to easily scan QR Codes to make payments without using cards. For merchants, this service is suitable for those who want to adopt new financial technology to respond to the needs of their customers and allow them to receive payments without having to install an EDC. In the initial phase, this service will support payment transactions made through Be1st Smart TPN UnionPay debit card.

In the initial phase, in late 2017 the Bank will undertake a service trial with around 200 Bangkok Bank merchants and other banks' merchants in the Silom area by allowing approximately 1,000 Be1st Smart TPN UnionPay debit card holders who are bank employees, plus their partners, to join the trial. The service will be officially launched in early 2018. In the next phase, the service will be available for Visa Card, MasterCard, UnionPay and JCB.
