bank muscat SAOG : successfully concludes first Shababi Gamerz Tournament

09/27/2021 | 05:32am EST

Bank Muscat has successfully concluded its first Bank Muscat eSports Tournament (Shababi Gamerz) with the grand finale being held recently at the bank's Head Office. The cross-platform tournament was a roaring success with as many as 2,304 registrations from wilayats across the Sultanate. A total of 1,724 players including many as young as 13 years took part in the two electronic games - FIFA and FORTNITE - at the tournament. The online FORTNITE game saw 700 players battling it out, while 1,024 players competed in the FIFA tournament.

Marwan Mahmood Al Raisi, Jaifar Nasser Al Balushi and Abdul Rahman Mohammed Al Balushi emerged as the top three winners in the FIFA game while Muhanad Hafeedh Al Shanfari, Ahmed Muneer Al Raisi and Sulieman Yahya Al Mashari emerged as the top players in FORTNITE. The first prize winner took home RO 500, while the runner up and the second runner up took RO 300 and RO 200 respectively in the tournament. Through the tournament, Bank Muscat continues to reach out to Omani youth to support them in demonstrating their skills across various fields. Inspired by the excellent response from the youth, the bank hopes to make the tournament an annual exercise.

Speaking on the occasion, Abdullah Tamman Al Mashani, Deputy General Manager - Institutional Sales and Product Development, said: "It is my great pleasure to thank all the players who took part in the tournament for making the best use of this opportunity to showcase their talent and skills. Electronic and computer games have become very popular with Omani youth and I would like to especially congratulate the winners for their excellent display of skills, and for further bettering the standards of the game. I hope that we will be able to see more Omani competitors take part in the world championships of various electronic games in the future. It is particularly noteworthy that electronic sports and games in the Sultanate have received a further boost after the formation of the Oman Committee for Electronic Games and Sports under the auspices of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth and we thank the Government of Oman for the strong support to the youth, who are the future of the nation."

As the leading financial services provider in the Sultanate and in line with its customer-centric vision, Bank Muscat is always keen to provide a wide range of products and services that take into account the needs and aspirations of its different customers. Shababi accounts can be opened by youth between the ages of 18 and 23 years. It comes with a number of benefits including no minimum balance fee, the Shababi contactless debit card and exclusive competitions on social media. The Shababi range of products will be of particular interest to students in universities, colleges and other higher educational institutions. The Shababi Debit Card is a contactless card, which has a daily withdrawal limit of RO 600 and enables a number of discounts and special offers at selected merchants. Shababi account holders are also eligible to apply for contactless wristbands to make contactless payments at different merchants and points of sales (PoS).

It must also be noted that Bank Muscat organises a number of monthly draws and special draws for Shababi customers to encourage a good savings habit amongst the youth. All customers who have a minimum balance of RO 10 are eligible to enter the Shababi monthly draw in which 100 winners win RO 100 each every month. The upcoming Shababi special draw will give away RO 12,500 by rewarding 25 winners with RO 500 each on the occasion of the Omani Youth Day on October 26th.
