BOJ to extend pandemic-relief scheme beyond September, says official

TOKYO (Reuters) - The Bank of Japan is ready to extend its pandemic-relief programme beyond the current September deadline, a senior central bank official said on Thursday.

"Service consumption has been declining so far this year with restaurants and hotels facing funding strains," BOJ Executive Director Shinichi Uchida told parliament.

"The BOJ is ready to extend its pandemic-relief programme if necessary," he added.
