Bankia supports Fundación La Caja de Canarias with 240,000 euros this year to develop social and environmental projects that improve the quality of life of the Islas Canarias and foster local development.

The agreement has been signed at the headquarters of Fundación La Caja de Canarias, in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, by Bankia's Regional Director in the Islas Canarias, Federico Navarro, and the president of Fundación La Caja de Canarias, Manuel Sánchez.

The agreement includes the implementation of the eighth 'Call for Social Action' to promote programmes that improve the quality of life of people with disabilities and/or at risk of social exclusion through the associations of the Islands in order to foster employment and training and revitalise the society and economy of the region.

In addition, the collaboration agreement includes the launch of the '2nd Environment and Sustainable Development Call' for local associations to carry out actions that preserve the islands' ecosystem and biodiversity and minimise the impact of climate change.

Bankia's regional corporate manager in the Islas Canarias highlighted that 'Bankia is exceedingly proud and takes on the responsibility governance of once again, working alongside the social and environmental entities that work for the Islas Canarias' society'.

'Together with Fundación La Caja de Canarias, we want to contribute to the social, economic and environmental development of a region as important to us as the Islas Canarias and in a socio-economic context as complex as the current one in which it is more necessary than ever to support to those who need it most'.

For his part, the president of Fundación La Caja de Canarias pointed out 'the importance of this agreement between the Foundation and Bankia because it means continuing the common effort for the eighth consecutive year to try to meet the needs of different groups in the Islas Canarias' society'.

In this regard, he stressed that 'Bankia proves its deeply rooted involvement with the Canarian society through aid for social projects, especially in these moments of uncertainty due to the Covid-19 pandemic'. He also thanked the increase in the contribution, because 'it indicates that it is not only a formal attitude to collaborate, but to provide and support now more than ever'.

The collaboration between Bankia and Fundación La Caja de Canarias will also enable the implementation of socio-cultural activities throughout 2021 and the provision of spaces for NGOs on the islands to publicise their initiatives in the most representative venues of Fundación La Caja de Canarias, always adhering to the healthcare recommendations derived from the pandemic.

Bankia

The bank is focusing its social investment on these areas and shows its commitment to society by involving the entire organisation and its employees. The Responsible Management policy is a capillary, grassroots programme that connects the bank's welfare work with its corporate objectives. This enables Bankia to prioritise five of the 17 SDGs: Climate action (SDG 13), Decent work and economic growth (SDG 8), Quality education (SDG 4), Sustainable cities and communities (SDG 11) and SDG 17, which encompasses them all, Alliances to achieve the objectives.

Fundación La Caja de Canarias

The Foundation is thereby renewing its primary purpose as a charity organization that has been investing its management results in the Canarian society for over 15 years, continuing the community work of La Caja, seeking out the entities that best understand the problems of social exclusion and how to promote employment and training for these disadvantaged groups, giving priority to the most urgent and necessary actions of our time.
