BASKING RIDGE, N.J. (AP) _ Barnes & Noble Education Inc. (BNED) on Tuesday reported a loss of $40.3 million in its fiscal fourth quarter.

The Basking Ridge, New Jersey-based company said it had a loss of 84 cents per share. Losses, adjusted for one-time gains and costs, were 59 cents per share.

The operator of book stores on college campuses posted revenue of $256.9 million in the period.

For the year, the company reported that its loss widened to $38.3 million, or 80 cents per share. Revenue was reported as $1.85 billion.

The company's shares closed at $2.03. A year ago, they were trading at $3.51.
