BASKING RIDGE, N.J. (AP) _ Barnes & Noble Education Inc. (BNED) on Thursday reported a loss of $44.3 million in its fiscal first quarter.

On a per-share basis, the Basking Ridge, New Jersey-based company said it had a loss of 86 cents. Losses, adjusted for restructuring costs and amortization costs, were 78 cents per share.

The operator of book stores on college campuses posted revenue of $240.8 million in the period.

Barnes & Noble Education shares have climbed 78% since the beginning of the year. The stock has more than tripled in the last 12 months.
