John Allan to be appointed Non-Executive Director and Chairman designate

The Board of Barratt Developments PLC is pleased to announce the appointment of John Allan, CBE as a Non-Executive Director and Chairman designate. He will join the Board on 1 August 2014 and will succeed Bob Lawson as Chairman following the Company's AGM on 12 November 2014. Bob Lawson who has been Chairman since 1 July 2008 will retire from the Board on 12 November 2014.

John is currently Chairman of Dixons Retail plc and a non-executive director of Royal Mail plc. Previously, he was Chief Executive of Exel plc for 11 years, and following its acquisition by Deutsche Post, became Chief Financial Officer. John was also a non-executive director of National Grid plc and 3i plc.

Commenting on the appointment, Bob Lawson, Chairman, said:

"We are delighted that John will be joining the Barratt Board and succeeding me as Chairman.  In November, I will have served on the Board for more than six years and seen the business recover strongly after the financial markets crisis by focusing on increasing profitability, reducing debt and increasing land investment.  I am very pleased to be handing over to someone of John's standing and experience; I am certain that he will make a major contribution to Barratt's future."

Commenting on his appointment, John Allan said:

"I am delighted to be joining the Board of the country's leading housebuilder.  The company's recent performance has been very strong and I look forward to leading the Board and supporting the management team in developing the company's strategy and performance still further."
