Barratt, which signed the pledge a day after rivals Persimmon and Taylor Wimpey, said it expects an expense of about 350 million-400 million pounds ($458.2 million-$523.7 million) to make the fire safety-related changes after it reviewed its buildings above 11 metres high built over the last 30 years in England, Scotland and Wales.

The removal of flammable rooftop covering or cladding became a hot political topic after the Grenfell Tower tragedy in which over 70 people died in a fire in the high-rise block in London, fuelling a widespread inquiry into fire safety of buildings.
