CALGARY, Alberta (AP) _ Baytex Energy Corp. (BTEGF) on Thursday reported first-quarter net income of $44.9 million, after reporting a loss in the same period a year earlier.

The Calgary, Alberta-based company said it had profit of 8 cents per share.

The oil and natural gas company posted revenue of $532 million in the period.

Baytex shares have climbed 80% since the beginning of the year. In the final minutes of trading on Thursday, shares hit $5.55, a climb of 88% in the last 12 months.
