Pizza Hut is working with plant-based "meat" supplier, Beyond Meat Inc., to offer a plant-based pie topping and three related menu items at some of its Canada stores, according to a news release.

Customers in the west end of the Greater Toronto area, including Mississauga, Etobicoke, Milton and Oakville, as well as Edmonton, can order the offerings which all feature Beyond Italian Sausage Crumble through pizzahut.ca or the Pizza Hut app and contactless delivery or pick-up.

The offerings being added include:

  • The Great Beyond: A specialty pizza crafted with the Beyond Italian Sausage Crumble paired with sliced red onions and tangy banana peppers on any Pizza Hut crust.
  • Beyond Italian Sausage Alfredo Loaded Flatbread: A flatbread topped with Beyond Italian Sausage Crumble, roasted red pepper, Alfredo sauce and mozzarella cheese.
  • Beyond Creamy Alfredo: A pasta Alfredo dish layered with Beyond Italian Sausage Crumble, onions, mushrooms and mozzarella cheese.

Beyond Italian Sausage can be added as a topping to all existing and build-your-own pies. Through June 6 Pizza Hut is running a buy-one, get-one-free promo that allows customers to try The Great Beyond pizza free by entering coupon code 879 at online checkout.

A University of Guelph report revealed more Canadians are adopting flexitarian diets and seeking ways to consume less animal-based protein, the release said. The latest Pizza Hut partnership aims to address the needs of those individuals.

Pizza Hut is based in Plano, Texas and has more than 18,000 stores globally.
