Taco Bell said it's not only bringing back potatoes in two upcoming menu items but is also "exploring" a plant-based protein with Beyond Meat, according to a news release.

After retiring the Cheesy Fiesta Potatoes and the Spicy Potato Soft Taco from the menu last year, the brand is bringing them back on March 11.

Additionally, the Irvine, California-based brand said it was working with Beyond Meat to create a "new plant-based protein," which it will test in 2022.

"The return of our beloved potatoes is just the first step in showing our fans the strong continued commitment to vegetarian we are making this year," Liz Matthews, Taco Bell's global chief food innovation officer, said in the release. "We have long been a leader in the vegetarian space, but this year, we have more meatless options in store that vegetarians, veggie-curious and even meat-eaters will love."

Taco Bell said it was the first QSR to partner with the American Vegetarian Association in 2015 and has more than 30 vegetarian ingredients on the U.S. menu. Internationally, it also has offerings like pulled-oats vegan protein in Europe and the Halloumi Crunchwrap in Cyprus.

The brand's potato bites are AVA-certified vegan, and customers can also swap meat for potatoes or beans on any of Taco Bell's menu items.

Likewise, the Spicy Potato Soft Taco will cost $1 and the Cheesy Fiesta Potatoes will be $1.49.
