Indian largest telecommunications provider Bharti Airtel has denied a media report that U.S.-based Amazon Inc. is in talks to buy a $2 billion stake in the company.

Bharti Airtel said in a stock-exchange filing Friday that it routinely works with digital players to bring their products and services to its customer base, but that "beyond that, there is, at this stage, no such proposal in consideration."

Reuters, citing unnamed sources, on Thursday reported that Amazon was in early talks to purchase a stake of at least $2 billion in Bharti Airtel, implying about a 5% stake in the company.
