BIC RENEWS LEADERSHIP SUSTAINABILITY RANKING FROM CDP

BIC,a world leader in stationery, lighters and shavers, announced today that it has renewed its A- 'Leadership' ranking from CDP, one of the globally recognized authorities on carbon emissions. The Leadership ranking, which BIC has received since 2015 for its response to CDP's climate change survey, highlights the company's effort to reduce its impact on climate and support the circular economy.

'We're honored to again be recognized for our work to tackle climate change as we take BIC's circular economy journey to the next level,' said Claire Bottineau, BIC's Sustainable Development Director. 'At BIC, sustainability is at the core of everything we do, and while we still have much to accomplish, our achievements so far are only possible because of our team members' dedication. Together, we will keep working to provide consumers with sustainable products and solutions while being guided by our 4R philosophy: Reducing the amount of raw materials used to make our products, including as much Recycled or alternative materials as possible, making more Refillable products, and improving the Recyclability of our products and packaging.'

CDP's ranking follows years of action to reduce BIC's environmental footprint: Since 2009, BIC has reduced its energy consumption per ton of product by 12% and BIC achieved 76% renewable electricity usage in 2019. Furthermore, as of 2019, 96% of the company's cardboard packaging comes from certified and/or recycled sources, and air freight represented less than 1% of BIC intracompany transport.

BIC recognizes that much work remains to achieve sustainability. CDP's citation also arrives as the company announces its Horizon strategy for long-term growth. This roadmap builds on BIC's 'Writing the Future, Together' Sustainable Development program with new commitments: aiming to use 50% non-virgin petroleum plastic for its products by 2030, with an intermediate target of 20% by 2025, and having 100% reusable, recyclable, or compostable consumer plastic packaging by 2025.
