Grunder Group strengthens BKW Engineering

Bringing new skills into the network

Bern, 27 April 2017

Grunder Ingenieure AG and its two partner firms, OSTAG Ingenieure AG and Ruefer Ingenieure AG, are now part of the BKW Engineering network. The acquisition of Grunder Group will add surveying, municipal engineering and geoinformatics with the latest technologies to its offer. The Grunder Group portfolio will also bolster BKW Engineering's existing skills.

The Grunder Group companies have always been regarded as technology pioneers and innovators. In 1989, only two years after its foundation, Grunder Ingenieure AG became the first Swiss engineering company to use GPS technology. Today, the company is a European leader in surveying technology. 3D mobile mapping and laser scanning are two services in its portfolio that are gaining considerable importance, notably in the infrastructure planning sector, where surveying forms the basis for the planning and realisation of every construction project. The Grunder Group is also active in transport infrastructure, urban water management and geographical information systems.

Vision and innovation have shaped the history of the Grunder Group from the outset. Joining the BKW Engineering network is another key milestone for the Group, which has over 130 employees at various locations in the canton of Bern. Not only does this safeguard the company's long-term future, it can also create more jobs in the Emmental-Oberaargau region and expand existing locations through planned growth. Staff, customers and partners will not be affected by the takeover. The current executive committee members will continue to be responsible for and manage the company.

Speaking on behalf of the Grunder Group executive committee, Hans Grunder, CEO and board member of Grunder Ingenieure AG, says this about the strategic move: 'As part of a comprehensive and far-reaching network, we will gain better access to European markets and can play a leading role in the expansion of BKW Engineering's services.' BKW CEO Suzanne Thoma is also confident: 'With the innovative surveying services offered by the Grunder Group, we can assist our clients with their projects, from the initial survey through to realisation. This allows us to create added value for the individual companies in our network and, in particular, for our clients.'

Following its most recent acquisitions in Germany and Austria, this latest step helps BKW Engineering to shore up its position in Switzerland as well. BKW Engineering commands a broadly diversified and growing network of companies throughout the German-speaking countries, and works with clients across Europe on future-oriented projects in the energy, infrastructure and environmental sectors, from the consulting stage through to realisation. BKW Engineering also provides testing and analysis services ranging from measurements to survey reports. www.bkw.ch/engineering
