BRAUNSCHWEIG (dpa-AFX) - Another climate lawsuit against Volkswagen is intended to bring about a faster end to combustion engines at the automaker. According to the ideas of the three plaintiffs supported by Greenpeace, sales should be prohibited from 2030, as the Regional Court of Braunschweig announced in advance. Prelude for the civil procedure is on Tuesday (10.30 o'clock) with an oral hearing.

Another goal, according to the court, is to require VW to reduce CO2 emissions by 65 percent by 2030 compared to 2018. The plaintiffs claim to be "injured in their property, their health and their right to preserve greenhouse gas-related freedom."

VW does not see a civil cause of action. "In our view, the lawsuit cannot succeed. It is unfounded, and we will apply for its dismissal in Braunschweig," the company said./bch/DP/jha
