Boeing announced on Wednesday the delivery of the seventh and eighth new-generation O3b mPower satellites for SES, with the aim of launching them in December from Cape Canaveral.
The satellites - to be launched into Medium Earth Orbit (MEO) 8,000 km from Earth - feature more than 5,000 steerable and flexible beams, capable of distributing connectivity services of up to several gigabits per second to the telecoms, maritime, aeronautics and energy sectors, as well as to governments.
Like the first O3b mPower satellites, these two additional satellites are to be launched into space aboard Falcon 9 rockets from billionaire Elon Musk's company SpaceX.
Boeing is still scheduled to deliver the last three O3b mPower satellites to SES in the first half of 2025, and is continuing production, integration and testing activities for the next satellites.
