bp reports that a floating production, storage and offloading (FPSO) vessel, a key component of phase 1 of the Greater Tortue Ahmeyim (GTA) LNG development, has arrived at its final location 40 km off the coasts of Mauritania and Senegal.

Moored in water depths of 120 m, it will be operated by bp, on behalf of its partners Kosmos Energy, Petrosen and SMH. The project will produce gas from deepwater reservoirs around 120 km offshore, using a subsea system.

The GTA Phase 1 development is expected to produce around 2.3 million tonnes of LNG per year for over 20 years. It is the first gas development in this new basin in West Africa.
