Braskem remained in the ranking of leading companies in water (A) and climate risk (A-) management of the Carbon Disclosure Program (CDP) , a non-profit organization that selects the world's best public corporations in the management of greenhouse gas emissions, water consumption and forest use. The company achieved a maximum score on the Water List for the fourth straight year and remained a leading company on the Climate List for the sixth straight year, reinforcing its engagement and positive impact in the topic.

'Braskem was created already committed to sustainable development, which has guided our entire journey as a business. Recognition by the CDP confirms that we are on the right path and, especially, that we have the capacity to achieve the goal of becoming a carbon neutral company by 2050,' said Jorge Soto, Sustainable Development Director at Braskem.

The CDP evaluated over 5,800 companies globally, and Braskem scored high in all criteria analyzed, remaining one of world's leading companies in corporate environmental contribution, action and transparency. The CDP's annual ranking, as well as its scoring process, is recognized as the gold standard in corporate environmental transparency.

The methodology applied by the organization, which is considered detailed and independent, attributes a score from A to D based on reporting scope, awareness and management of environmental risks and best practices associated with environmental leadership. Companies that do not report or that provide insufficient information are scored F.

Note that, in 2020, around 515 investors, representing over US$106 trillion in assets, and more than 150 key buyers, with US$4 trillion in acquisitions, requested that companies report data on environmental impacts, risks and opportunities through the CDP platform. Over 9,600 responded, which is the highest participation rate of recent years.

'We congratulate all of this year's A List companies. Assuming leadership in environmental transparency and action is one of the most important steps companies can take and is admirable, especially in such a challenging year marked by the covid-19 pandemic. The scale of the risks from climate change, deforestation and water scarcity for the companies is huge, and we know that the opportunities for action far exceed the risks of inaction. The private sector's leadership will create a 'cycle of ambitions' for greater government action and will ensure that global intentions for a sustainable net-zero economy become a reality. Our A List celebrates companies that are preparing to stand apart in the future economy by taking measures today,' said Paul Simpson, CEO of the CDP.
