Winger Corey Oates is recovering well in hospital after being diagnosed with a staph infection.

The 22-year-old was a late withdrawal from the NRMA Insurance Bronco's loss to Melbourne Storm last Friday night after suffering pain in his hips and lower body.

He was admitted to hospital for tests and diagnosed with a staph infection which has been treated with antibiotics over recent days.

Broncos CEO Paul White visited Oates in hospital and said the giant winger is in good spirits as he recovers.

'He's doing well and taking it day-by-day with his treatment, the pain is under control now and it is a relief that we know what the problem is,' said White.

'He's in good spirits but it's far too early to tell when he will be back, so it's just important that he rests up.

'The most important thing is that he takes his time to get well - his health and welfare are the main factors as far as the Club is concerned.'
