Burberry Group plc announced that Alan Stewart has been appointed to the Board as a Non-Executive Director and member of the Audit and Nomination committees, with effect from 1 September 2022. The Company also announces that Matthew Key will be retiring as a Non-Executive Director at the Annual General Meeting in July 2023, following completion of 9 years' service. It is anticipated that Alan will replace Matthew as Audit Committee Chair at that time.

Alan is a Non-Executive Director on the boards of Diageo plc and Reckitt Benckiser Group plc where he chairs the Audit Committee and the Remuneration Committee respectively. He was previously a Non-Executive Director and Audit Committee chair of Games Workshop Group plc from 1996 to 2009. In his executive career, Alan was Chief Financial Officer of Tesco PLC from 2014 to 2021, where he played an instrumental role in the financial transformation of the business.

From 2010 to 2014, Alan was Chief Financial Officer of Marks & Spencer PLC prior to which he also served as Chief Financial Officer of AWAS, Group Finance Director of WH Smith PLC and CEO and CFO of Thomas Cook Holdings. He is a Chartered Accountant having qualified with Deloitte. Alan was a founder member of the Accounting 4 Sustainability CFO network which he chaired for four years until his retirement in 2021 and is a member of Chapter Zero.
