Burkhalter Group

Portrait 2020

2020 financial year better than expected

As forecast, the Burkhalter Group closed the second half of 2020 with excellent results. Despite the coronavirus crisis, we improved the significantly reduced results from the first half, exceeded our target EBIT margin of 6% for the second half and closed the overall financial year 2020 with earnings per share of CHF 2.43 (previous year CHF 3.72).

Around 200 new employees welcomed

The Burkhalter Group also expanded, acquiring Elektro Christoffel, Inhaber Andrea Stiffler AG, in Davos Platz (GR) on 6 January 2020. The company has 20 employees. We also set up Elektrotechnik AG EAGB in Basel on 4 December 2020 and transferred 175 employees and a large portion of the orders held by Elektrizitäts AG EAGB, which was subject to insolvency proceedings, to the company. The Burkhalter Group therefore currently consists of 47 operating companies at 103 locations. It will remain part of the Burkhalter Group's strategy in future to grow through selectively acquiring other electrical engineering companies.

Confident outlook

Assuming that the measures to combat COVID-19 are eµective and there are no further shutdowns of building sites, we are working on the assumption that we can achieve earnings per share of around CHF 3.72 (pre-coronavirus) in the financial year 2021, i.e. roughly in line with 2019.

Many thanks

Our particular thanks go to our 3,300 or so employees, who have worked tirelessly for the success of the Burkhalter Group despite the inefficiencies resulting from the measures to protect us all from the coronavirus.

Figures based on Swiss GAAP FER

360° Swiss electrotechnics

Electrical engineering begins at the power utility company and includes all the processes that culminate in the management of electrical machines and installations for the

end user. The Burkhalter Group provides a full range of high-quality precision services: 360° Swiss electrotechnics.

Installations

Electrical installations are our key area of expertise. We undertake these in single- family homes and residential developments, in industrial and commercial enterprises,

in public buildings such as schools, hospitals and shopping centres, in hotels and infrastructure facilities, etc.

Switchboards

Our service ranges from simple distribution boards and custom-made DIY frames through to type-tested plants for industry and trade. We also plan and create control cabinets for applications in building, measurement and control technology. And because everything doesn't always have to be new, we also carry out conversions and modifications to existing switchboards.

Service and Maintenance

Electrical installations age and need to be replaced from time to time. Our staff carry out servicing, maintenance and repair work professionally and promptly. The size of the job is irrelevant: we fit lights, maintain technical facilities in commercial buildings and undertake smaller electrical alterations for private individuals, trade and industry.

Telematics

Since the field of information and communications is subject to constant change, our main focus is on needs-based consultancy, planning and implementation of modern communication and network solutions. We also offer comprehensive round-the-clock support.

Automation

With our automation solutions, technical equipment such as lighting, blinds, heating, ventilation and multimedia and security technology can be controlled at any time and from any location - and the associated energy consumption can be controlled at the same time.

Power line construction

Power line construction provides us with a reliable power supply and an uninterrupted flow of electricity and data. Our services include managing electricity companies, analysing and advising on power lines, planning and executing power line construction.

Security

The protection of property, data and material assets is becoming increasingly important. That's why, together with our partners, we offer individual security systems such as burglar alarms and alarm, video and access control systems.

Swiss Projects

Companies with multiple locations in Switzer- land want a partner who can offer them all electrical engineering services from a single provider. Our Swiss Projects department offers just that - a personal contact ensures that the project is undertaken by one of our local Group companies.

Better together

COVID-19 is also having a negative impact on work on building sites. The significant reduction in results from the first half of 2020 was mainly attributable to the inefficiencies resulting from the protective measures in response to coronavirus, the unexpected postponement of projects and the partial standstill at building sites in French-speaking Switzerland and in Ticino. We were able to increase results in the second half of 2020 and, as a result, close financial year 2020 better than expected.
