Cal Water Begins Water Infrastructure Improvement Project to Support Carson Customers

TORRANCE, Calif. - As part of its commitment to ensure critical infrastructure remains safe and reliable, California Water Service (Cal Water) has a new water infrastructure upgrade underway in Carson. The project will ensure customers and firefighters continue to have the water they need for their everyday and emergency needs.

The project, which is expected to be completed in early 2021, includes the installation of more than 10,700 feet of new 6-inch and 8-inch steel, ductile iron, and PVC water main. All existing individual customer service connections and fire hydrants will be connected to the new water main. Installation will take place in the following areas:

• From the 700-900 blocks of East Sepulveda Boulevard, East Lincoln Street, East Pacific Street, and Realty Street
• From the 700-800 blocks of East Bonds Street and East Deloras Drive
• From the 23900 to 24300 blocks of South Wilmington Avenue
• The 24200 block of Seagrove Avenue

'This important infrastructure upgrade is part of our promise to deliver quality, service, and value to Carson residents and businesses and to ensure first responders can protect the community in an emergency,' said District Manager Dan Armendariz. 'As essential service workers, our crews are committed to delivering a reliable supply of safe, high-quality water to our customers for their drinking, cooking, handwashing, and other household needs, now and for years to come.'

Crews will make every effort to minimize traffic delays during construction, which will be performed Monday through Friday between 9 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. Crews will also minimize any temporary service interruptions so that residents have the water they need during this time. Residents will be notified in advance of any planned shutdowns, which are normally scheduled during regular work hours.

Following installation, crews will conduct water quality testing before connecting individual customer service lines to the new water main. Crews will also restore all streets, sod, and landscaping impacted by the construction.

Cal Water serves approximately 313,400 people through 87,900 service connections in its system and another 44,600 people through an operations and maintenance contract with the City of Hawthorne. Company-wide, Cal Water serves about 2 million people through 489,600 service connections in California. The utility has provided water service in the area since 1927.
